the inside track

We fell in love with this area over 10 years ago. The coastline, the surf, the food, the people.

There’s so much to do we thought we’d share our inside track on what we love to do to help you get the best out of your time here.

Here is our insider guide;

  1. Swim, paddle or float in the natural sea pool at Summerleaze in Bude. Heavenly.
  2. Go crabbing or rock pooling at Northcott Mouth Beach and follow that with an artery busting cream tea at Margaret’s famous
    Rustic Tea Garden.
  3. Head to the wonderful Summerleaze Beach with a body board.
  4. Spend some time at Sandymouth beach, one of our favourites.
  5. Visit the Deck which overlooks Summerleaze beach. Friendly hosts and great food. It’s our kids’ favourite place to eat.
  6. Book yourself in at Dragon Archery. Shooting arrows at dinosaurs, orks and knights is weirdly therapeutic.
  7. Hit the waves. Try a surf lesson with The Big Blue Surf School.
  8. Eggs benedict brunch at the Olive Tree in Bude, followed by a walk along the canal.
  9. Visit the romantic fishing village of Port Isaac (of Doc Martin fame). Have a fish lunch at Outlaws.
  10. Visit the beautiful Trebarwith Strand beach and eat fresh donuts there. Follow this with supper at our favourite pub – The St
Kew Inn, St Kew. Fantastic food.
  11. Go for Sunday Lunch at The Old Smithy pub in Welcombe. Head down to the beach and marvel at the geology and natural
waterfall. There’s also a great little pottery nearby.
  12. Buy some straight from the sea, fresh lobster from the wet fish shop in Widemouth. Great on the BBQ.
  13. Walk or run any part of the South West Coastal Path.
  14. Have a sundowner at the Beach Hotel in Bude. Their sunny terrace has wonderful sea views.
  15. Visit Lanhydrock House – you’ll feel like your in Downton, the kids will think they’re in a castle.
  16. Walk from Boscastle to Crackington Haven (8 miles) – strenuous but worth it, and Boscastle is oh so pretty.
  17. Cycle the Camel Trail to Padstow from Wadebridge, and try a deep fried scallop at Rick Stein’s fish and chip shop when you get
    there.
  18. For a rainy day out, try the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth then Royal William Boatyard for lunch at Hugh
    Fearnley-Whittingstalls’ River Cottage or Wagamama’s.
  19. Check out the Rebel Cinema – just off the A39. A bit retro and big squashy seats.
  20. Have a drink at North Coast Wine in Bude – £5 corkage to try some of Oliver’s fantastic wines.
